ANIMAL HOUSING, MANURE HEAPS AND REFUSE TIPS
For the control of the larval stages of Common House flies and Stable flies in intensive livestock units and on manure and refuse heaps. This product should not be used continuously against flies in intensive or controlled environment animal units. If treatment in subsequent stocking cycles is required, use a product with a different active ingredient or a different control method (such as space sprays or baits).
Application
Apply Dimilin Flo as a directed spray, using a knapsack sprayer with hand lance or, for large areas, a boom fitted with fan nozzles. Treat all areas where manure or moist waste feed collects and flies breed such as dung pits, channels and trays, around and under grills and feed troughs, corners difficult to clean, wall footings etc. Since Dimilin Flo does not kill adult flies but breaks the breeding cycle by killing the larvae (maggots), the full effect of treatment may not be apparent for 2-3 weeks. Existing adult infestations should be controlled with a knockdown insecticide during this period. ‘Fly-in’ of adult flies from outside should be minimised by treating sources of infestation with Dimilin Flo, or a ‘knockdown’ insecticide used as necessary.
Note: Do not apply Dimilin Flo directly to livestock.
Rate of use
Apply 10 ml/10 m2 of treated surface and repeat at 5-6 week intervals. In systems where manure builds up rapidly or is removed frequently – apply
5 ml/10 m2 and repeat every 2-3 weeks. Impervious surfaces should be wetted without run-off using, as a guide, a water volume of 1 litre water per 10 m2. Litter, manure and refuse heaps should be well wetted and will require a water volume of not less than 2 litres per 10 m2.
Timing
Best fly control is achieved when Dimilin Flo is applied at the start of the season after houses have been cleared and before restocking. Treatment
should be repeated every 5-6 weeks, or after mucking-out or when adult fly population begins to build up. If Dimilin Flo is used at the low rate of 5 ml/10 m2, treatment should be repeated every 2-3 weeks.
POULTRY
Deep Pit Houses – treat droppings and other breeding areas, particularly at the start of the season when houses are first set and repeat every 5-6 weeks. If manure builds up rapidly, use more frequent applications at the lower dosage (see ‘Rate of use’ above). Broiler Houses – treat litter immediately prior to stocking and repeat every 5-6 weeks if necessary.
PIGS
Treat all fly breeding areas in farrowing and weaner houses after cleaning and sterilising, but prior to stocking. Repeat treatment after mucking out, prior to restocking or every 5-6 weeks if necessary.
CATTLE
Treat closed buildings as for pigs. Control in open buildings will only be possible if all surrounding breeding sites are treated.
MANURE AND REFUSE HEAPS
Treat every 5-6 weeks to minimise breeding. Fresh material may need treating within this period.
Other specific restrictions: This product must not be applied directly to livestock.
